Real sites and apps,
tested on real hosts.

No synthetic benchmarks. We push every host under real-world load — live user traffic on real sites and apps — then track uptime around the clock with professional monitoring tools and re-test on a fixed schedule.

The result: rankings that match what you’ll see on launch day, not a lab bench.

How we test

We load a real site & app.

No synthetic benchmarks. We deploy the same punishing build on every host — a real website and a real app, 10 plugins, content-heavy pages packed with full-size images, with compression and lazy-loading switched off on purpose.

That strips out every shortcut and leaves only the server. We clock the full page load, start to finish — the host that paints the entire thing fastest wins — then watch uptime around the clock for weeks before anything gets published.

01
Real site + app
10 plugins, image-heavy pages, compression and lazy-load OFF — the exact same demanding build on every host.
02
Full-load timing
We clock the complete page render — front-end and server, not just first paint. Fastest to finish wins.
03
TTFB · local + global
Server response measured both from the host’s own region and from cities worldwide — fast at home can’t hide slow long-haul.
04
Uptime · around the clock
Professional 1-minute uptime monitors run for weeks before we publish, then re-checked long after launch.
Q1Shared, managed WP, or cloud — which one do I actually need?

For a personal blog or a small business site under 50k visits/month, shared (Hostinger, SiteGround) is fine. For agency client work, growing eCommerce, or anything where downtime hurts revenue, jump to managed WP (Kinsta, WP Engine). For dev-led teams that want to pick the cloud and scale freely, cloud / VPS (Cloudways) is the sweet spot.

Q2Why is the renewal price so much higher than the intro price?

Welcome to hosting in 2026. Most shared hosts use the intro price as a customer-acquisition cost — they expect to make it back over years 2–4. We always quote both prices in every review, and the “renewal pain” score is part of our 6-axis formula.

Q3Is “unlimited bandwidth / storage” actually unlimited?

No. Every “unlimited” plan has fair-use caps — usually CPU minutes per day or inodes (file count). When you hit them, the host throttles or asks you to upgrade. We list the real caps from the AUP in every shared-hosting review.

Q4Should I buy hosting and domain together?

We recommend keeping your domain at a dedicated registrar (Cloudflare, Porkbun) and hosting separately. If your host has a billing dispute or goes down, your domain is still under your control. Bundles save $10–15/yr; portability saves you a 3-day migration headache.

Q5Do you take money from these hosting brands?

Yes — we earn affiliate commissions when you sign up through our links, and we’re transparent about it on every page. But scoring happens before any link goes in: the commission a host pays carries zero weight in our ranking — something we spell out in full in our methodology. Money never moves the verdict.
